The Texas Tech football team will be missing its top two punt returners when the Red Raiders host Kansas on Saturday.
Receivers Roy Alexander and Tristian Gentry are both listed as out on Tech’s initial injury report, released Wednesday night by the Big 12 Conference. The pair missed last week’s victory over Houston and are expected to sit out again at Jones AT&T Stadium.
Receiver Coy Eakin stepped in as the team’s punt returner in the absence of Alexander and Gentry. On Tech’s Monday depth chart, Eakin was listed as the starter at the position, ahead of Gentry and RB J’Koby Williams.
Two key starters for Texas Tech, LB Jacob Rodriguez and LT Howard Sampson, are listed as questionable. Rodriguez briefly left last week’s game at Houston with a bruised calf but returned before sitting out the remainder of the blowout win.
On the Kansas side, 10 players are listed as out for the matchup.
Safety Chapman Lewis appeared on the availability report for the first time and was ruled out, along with CB Tarrion Grant and OL Holton Hendrix. Lewis has yet to play this season and is expected to redshirt, though he could see action later in the year.
