Red Bull Sees ‘Huge Positive’ After Verstappen’s Strong Comeback, Says Technical Director
Red Bull’s technical director, Pierre Waché, shared insights with RacingNews365, highlighting a key breakthrough following Max Verstappen’s recent uptick in form.
Since returning from the summer break, Verstappen has been the standout performer on the grid, racking up 86 out of a possible 100 points. He claimed victories in Italy and Azerbaijan, alongside second-place finishes in Zandvoort and Singapore — more points and podiums than any other driver over that span.
Heading into the Singapore Grand Prix, doubts lingered over whether Red Bull could maintain that momentum. Their RB21 car typically performs better on low-downforce circuits like Monza and Baku, whereas Marina Bay’s layout demands high downforce.
Yet Verstappen defied expectations in Singapore, outqualifying and outracing both McLarens to finish second — a result Waché described as a “huge positive,” especially given the track’s characteristics.
Discussing the RB21’s prospects over the final six races, Waché was cautious but optimistic:
“It’s hard to predict,” he said. “But what matters is improving how the car is used and getting the most out of it for the drivers. We were concerned our pace would drop off on high-downforce circuits — but it didn’t. That’s a very encouraging sign for the remaining races.”
When asked whether Red Bull always believed they could unlock the RB21’s potential, especially as some rivals have shifted focus to 2026, Waché explained their ongoing commitment to development:
“Yes, absolutely. If you stop working on the car, you never really know what you might have been capable of achieving. That’s the key — continuing to find what the driver needs from the car.”
