What Michigan Coach Sherrone Moore Said Following Loss to USC

The Michigan Wolverines, ranked No. 15, fell to the USC Trojans 31-13 in a game that marked a major home win for head coach Lincoln Riley and his team. Now sitting at 5-1 and 3-1 in Big Ten play, USC delivered a strong four-quarter performance in front of their home crowd at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

After the game, Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore addressed the media and offered his thoughts on the defeat and where his team needs to go from here.

Moore on the Loss to USC

“They simply executed better than we did,” Moore said postgame. “They played a complete game. We had moments where we just didn’t execute when it mattered most.”

He pointed out tackling as a key weakness.
“We didn’t tackle well at all — definitely one of our worst tackling games this year. USC had a solid game plan, converted on third downs, hit some explosive plays, and scored at critical moments — especially at the beginning and just before halftime.”

Despite the loss, Moore didn’t make excuses.
“We have to do a better job of correcting those mistakes. Credit to them — they came in prepared. Our focus has to be on improving from here.”

On USC Running Back King Miller’s Breakout Performance

Moore acknowledged the huge game from USC walk-on running back King Miller, who rushed for 158 yards.
“We were out of position. We didn’t fill the gaps right, and they executed really well — both in terms of blocking and play design. It was a great run, and they took advantage.”

He added, “Again, hats off to Lincoln Riley and his staff. But we also have to look at our mistakes and fix them. There were some positives — our team kept fighting. There was no quit, but in games like this, you have to be sharper.”

On USC’s Fast Starts and Michigan’s Response

Moore noted that while USC scored quickly at the start of both halves, his players never gave up.
“Our guys kept pushing, even after those early scores. We never lost focus or energy. That’s something I’m proud of — we’re going to fight all the way to the end, no matter the situation.”

On the Bigger Picture After the Loss

Looking ahead, Moore stressed the importance of not letting one loss derail the season.
“We’ve got to keep getting better — plain and simple. This one game can’t define us. When we land, it’s all about what we do next.”

He added, “We’re halfway through the season. There are still six games left, so we’re not focused on long-term goals right now. We need to focus on Monday — how we come back, how we regroup. This team isn’t done. There’s still a lot to play for, and we’re going to keep fighting.”
