Missouri Flips 3-Star Safety Carter Stewart From Utah
Missouri’s recruiting momentum continues to build, as the Tigers secured a commitment from 3-star safety Carter Stewart on Monday, October 13, according to On3’s Hayes Fawcett. Stewart becomes Missouri’s 17th commitment in the 2026 class — and their third in just the past week.
Despite suffering their first loss of the season to Alabama in Week 6, head coach Eli Drinkwitz and his staff are surging on the recruiting trail. Less than a month ago, the Tigers had only ten commits; now they’ve nearly doubled that number.
Stewart, a 6-foot-1, 170-pound safety from Shadow Creek High School in Pearland, Texas, is rated as the No. 182 safety nationally and the No. 264 overall prospect in Texas. He originally committed to Utah in June but flipped to Missouri following an official visit to Columbia for the Alabama game.
Currently, Stewart joins fellow 3-star safety Tony Forney (from Kell High School in Marietta, Georgia) as the only defensive back commits in Missouri’s 2026 class. The Tigers are likely still targeting at least one cornerback to round out the secondary.
Missouri’s recent recruiting success has launched them up the 247Sports Composite Team Rankings — jumping from outside the top 50 to No. 33 nationally. And the class could climb even higher.
In addition to Stewart, Missouri hosted a large group of high-profile recruits during the Alabama weekend, several of whom are now reconsidering previous commitments. One notable example is 4-star defensive lineman Tahj Overton from Owasso, Oklahoma, who decommitted from Oklahoma State shortly after his visit and now appears to be strongly considering the Tigers.
If Drinkwitz and his staff can maintain this recruiting momentum, Missouri may break into the top 25 recruiting classes — or climb even higher — by the end of the cycle.
