Nuggets Add Former NBA Veteran Tony Delk to Scouting Staff

The Denver Nuggets are bolstering their front office ahead of the 2025-26 NBA season by bringing in a familiar face from the league’s past. According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the Nuggets have hired former NBA guard Tony Delk as a scout.

Delk, who most recently worked as a pro personnel scout for the Dallas Mavericks, now transitions into a new role in Denver, joining the team just days before the season tips off.

A 10-year NBA veteran, Delk entered the league as a first-round pick in the legendary 1996 NBA Draft. Over the course of his career, he played for eight different teams — including the Phoenix Suns, Golden State Warriors, Boston Celtics, and Charlotte Hornets — never spending more than two seasons with any one franchise. He appeared in 545 games, posting career averages of 9.1 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game.

Before turning pro, Delk was a standout at the University of Kentucky, where he played four seasons and helped lead the Wildcats to a national title in 1996 under coach Rick Pitino.

Since retiring in 2006, Delk has stayed connected to the game through coaching and scouting. He’s held assistant coaching positions at both Kentucky and New Mexico State and later transitioned into scouting roles within the NBA. His addition to the Nuggets continues the team’s trend of adding experienced former players to their staff.

Denver already boasts other notable ex-players on their coaching and scouting teams, including Jared Dudley and J.J. Barea, both of whom have received praise from players and coaches alike for their impact behind the scenes.

Delk now becomes the latest former NBA player to join the organization, contributing to the Nuggets’ evolving support system under new head coach David Adelman, who enters his first full season at the helm.
