The struggling 2025 LSU football team has now seen a second player leave the program.

Junior cornerback Ashton Stamps, who started all 13 games last season, has departed after losing his starting spot due to an influx of new talent from the transfer portal.

“Yes, he’s no longer on the roster,” LSU head coach Brian Kelly confirmed during Wednesday’s SEC teleconference, addressing reports of Stamps’ departure.

Earlier this season, sophomore defensive tackle Sydir Mitchell, a transfer from Texas, also left the team after not seeing any game action through the first two weeks.

Kelly had mentioned on Monday that the staff planned to redshirt Stamps, explaining his absence from the recent road trip to Vanderbilt. LSU, ranked No. 10 at the time, suffered a 31-24 loss to No. 17 Vanderbilt, dropping them to No. 20 nationally with a 5-2 (2-2 SEC) record. The Tigers now turn their focus to hosting No. 3 Texas A&M (7-0, 4-0 SEC) on Saturday (6:30 p.m., ABC).

Stamps appeared briefly in just three games this season, recording one tackle and two pass breakups. Having not played since the Florida game, he’s expected to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal, retaining a year of eligibility due to redshirt rules.
