Oregon Playmaker Named MVP in 21–7 Victory Over Wisconsin
The No. 6 Oregon Ducks secured a 21–7 win over the Wisconsin Badgers in Week 9, improving their record while leaning heavily on their ground game. Though Oregon’s offense totaled just 335 yards—down significantly from the 750-yard explosion against Rutgers—running back Jordon Davison was the difference-maker, rushing 16 times for 102 yards and two touchdowns to earn Oregon’s MVP of the game.
The Ducks got off to a sluggish start, failing to score in the opening quarter as tension grew inside Autzen Stadium. Quarterback Dante Moore eventually found rhythm midway through the second quarter, leading a steady drive capped by a three-yard touchdown run from Davison to give Oregon the lead.
With the passing game struggling, Oregon leaned on its backfield to keep the offense moving. The situation intensified when Moore took a hit to the helmet in the third quarter and spent about 15 minutes in the medical tent before being ruled out. Backup quarterback Brock Thomas entered and performed efficiently, completing all four of his passes for 46 yards and a touchdown.
Davison’s strong performance has reignited the conversation about Oregon’s starting running back role. While Bucky Irving Whittington carried 14 times for 97 yards, Davison’s efficiency—averaging over seven yards per carry and now up to eight touchdowns on the season—could push coaches to give him more early-down opportunities rather than just goal-line duties.
In Moore’s absence, Davison became the centerpiece of the Ducks’ offense, carrying the load through the second half and helping Oregon control the game. With a bye week ahead, Oregon will have time to regroup before heading to Iowa City in Week 11 to face a tough Hawkeyes defense that’s allowing just 13 points per game after a dominant 41–3 win over Minnesota.
