Deion Sanders Reacts To Colorado Buffaloes’ Meltdown At Utah
Deion Sanders Responds to Colorado’s Collapse Against Utah
The Colorado Buffaloes completely unraveled in Salt Lake City, suffering a humiliating defeat to the Utah Utes. Head coach Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders didn’t mince words after his team’s 53–7 loss — their worst showing since he took over in Boulder.

After a bye week that was supposed to bring rest and readiness, the Buffaloes instead produced a shocking first half with negative 18 yards of total offense. The performance effectively crushed any remaining bowl hopes and evoked painful memories of Colorado’s pre-Sanders struggles.
Opening Statement
“I’ve got tremendous respect for Coach [Kyle] Whittingham — and he flat-out beat me today,” Sanders said. “It was head coach versus head coach, and he won by a wide margin. I admire his endurance, his longevity, and the toughness his team shows — they reflect who he is.”
“This was bad. Honestly, it’s probably the worst beating I’ve ever taken, other than when my mama whooped me as a kid. We gave up 422 rushing yards — you can’t win like that. You can’t win giving up 300 yards rushing, not even 250. Offensively, we finished with 140 total yards; that’s not going to get it done. Utah had 587 yards — that’s total domination. We also gave up a fake punt and a blocked punt on special teams. In all three phases of the game, we got our butts kicked.”
On Struggling to Stop the Run
“We didn’t execute, and we didn’t prepare our players well enough. That’s on us.”
On Failing After a Bye Week
“With the way we practiced and prepared, there’s just no reason this should’ve happened,” Sanders said. “We were physical all week. We emphasized consistency — but the only thing we were consistent in tonight was penalties. Two for 15 yards. Honestly, that’s the only stat I can be proud of.”
On Utah’s Relentless Pressure
“They blitzed us nonstop. They’re probably still blitzing us right now — even while we’re in here,” Sanders joked grimly. “I told our guys to be ready, because now the secret’s out. Teams are going to keep coming after us like that.”
