On Monday, the Auburn Tigers released their official depth chart ahead of Saturday’s home matchup against the Kentucky Wildcats.
One of the biggest questions heading into the week is who will start at quarterback. During last week’s game against Arkansas, head coach Hugh Freeze benched Jackson Arnold in favor of Ashton Daniels after the Razorbacks returned an interception for a touchdown to take a 21-10 lead before halftime. Daniels then led Auburn to a second-half comeback and protected the ball well.
When asked about the quarterback situation during his weekly press conference, Freeze emphasized that the competition remains open.
“I don’t think there’s any better motivator than competition,” Freeze said. “That’s what this is — an open battle to see who prepares and performs the best. Both will split reps this week before we decide. They each did a lot of good things. I thought Ashton showed tremendous poise and leadership coming into a tough situation when momentum had completely swung against us. He gave us a spark. Up until Jackson’s interception, I thought he had played really well too. It’ll be exciting to see how both respond as we prepare for Kentucky.”
Freeze also provided injury updates, noting that running back Durell Robinson will be available to play this week. However, wide receiver Cam Coleman’s status remains uncertain.
“We’re hopeful, but we just don’t know yet,” Freeze said. “The good thing is it’s not a high ankle sprain — it’s lower down, and those usually heal quicker. So we’re optimistic, but we’ll have to wait and see.”
