Colts Add Veteran Pass Rusher to Bolster Defensive Line Depth
Amid a string of injuries along the defensive front, the Indianapolis Colts have added much-needed experience by signing veteran defensive end Tanoh Kpassagnon to the practice squad. In a corresponding move, the team released Seth Coleman, who had joined the unit just days earlier.
Kpassagnon brings valuable experience to a Colts defense thin at defensive end. The 6-foot-7, 289-pound lineman has appeared in 108 career games with the Chiefs, Saints, and Bears, totaling 145 tackles, 23 tackles for loss, and 17.5 sacks since entering the NFL in 2017.
A former second-round pick from Villanova, Kpassagnon played a key role in Kansas City’s 2019 Super Bowl run before spending four seasons in New Orleans and a short stint in Chicago earlier this year.
The signing comes as Indianapolis looks to reinforce its pass rush following Samson Ebukam’s MCL injury, which is expected to sideline him for several weeks. In his absence, Tyquan Lewis and JT Tuimoloau are expected to see expanded roles.
Kpassagnon’s versatility—his ability to line up both inside and outside—provides defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo with additional flexibility. His three career postseason sacks further highlight his knack for producing in critical moments.
If he can quickly adjust to the scheme, Kpassagnon could earn a spot on the active roster soon. The move represents a calculated depth addition as the Colts aim to maintain their defensive momentum heading into the second half of the season.
With the NFL trade deadline approaching, this could be the first of several defensive adjustments. Even as a practice-squad signing, Kpassagnon could be elevated on game day if he impresses during practice.
The move means the end of a brief stint for rookie Seth Coleman, who was signed on October 21. The undrafted Illinois product spent the offseason with Seattle and recorded 15.5 collegiate sacks before arriving in Indianapolis.
The timing is significant, as the Colts prepare to face the Pittsburgh Steelers and veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers in Week 9. Rodgers’ limited mobility could give Indianapolis a prime opportunity to pressure the pocket with a rejuvenated defensive front.
As injuries continue to test the defense, the addition of Kpassagnon offers a low-risk, high-upside solution. Every roster move counts at this stage, and the Colts are betting that this one can help sustain their playoff push.
