Jets-Cardinals Offseason QB Trade Rumors Already Gaining Steam
Speculation is growing that the New York Jets could pursue Kyler Murray in the upcoming offseason.
After taking a gamble on Justin Fields that hasn’t paid off, the Jets once again find themselves searching for stability at quarterback. Despite making several trades at the deadline to acquire additional draft picks, the team’s long-term plan under center remains uncertain. Those assets could be used to draft a young quarterback — or to swing a trade for a proven NFL starter.
Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox recently floated one potential scenario: the Jets trading Fields, a 2026 second-round pick, and a 2027 first-rounder to the Arizona Cardinals in exchange for former No. 1 overall pick Kyler Murray.
Could Kyler Murray Land in New York?
Knox noted that if the Jets fall outside the range to draft a top 2026 quarterback prospect, they might target a veteran like Murray. “Justin Fields hasn’t looked like a long-term answer, and Tyrod Taylor is a capable veteran backup at best,” Knox wrote. He added that the Jets could “audition Murray for a year and move on in 2027 if he doesn’t raise the offense’s ceiling.”
According to Knox, the Jets’ willingness to experiment with a dual-threat quarterback like Fields suggests they could do the same with Murray. With three first-round picks in 2027, New York could structure a deal to keep its best two if Murray fails to return to Pro Bowl form, preserving flexibility to pursue another top QB prospect the following year.
Still, many see such a move as a major risk. Trading for Murray would only make sense if the Jets truly believe he can be their franchise quarterback. On the upside, their offense is already designed around a mobile passer, meaning Murray could fit seamlessly.
However, the proposed trade would cost significant draft capital — a steep price unless the Jets are convinced Murray is the long-term answer under center.
