Bulldog Roundup: Mississippi State Suffers Second Straight Loss

Mississippi State dropped its second consecutive game Friday night, falling 80–78 to New Mexico in a tightly contested consolation matchup at the Hall of Fame Classic in Kansas City.

The game stayed close throughout, with neither side able to pull ahead by more than seven points. The second half featured constant lead changes, and the Bulldogs held a 77–76 edge in the final minute before New Mexico swung the momentum with a late steal and fastbreak score. Two free throws in the closing seconds put the Lobos up for good, and Mississippi State’s final possession fell short.

Josh Hubbard and Jayden Epps kept the Bulldogs competitive, combining for 50 points. Hubbard hit six threes on his way to 29 points, while Epps added 21 on 8-of-17 shooting. But their efforts weren’t enough to overcome issues elsewhere.

Mississippi State struggled at the free-throw line, converting just 7 of 13 attempts, while New Mexico tallied 19 points at the stripe. The Bulldogs were also outrebounded by 10.

Mississippi State returns home Monday to face New Orleans at Humphrey Coliseum, with tipoff set for 6:30 p.m. on SECN+.
