Oklahoma State Still Can’t Put Together a Complete Game

Oklahoma State came close once again on Saturday, but left Orlando without a win. After last week’s loss to Kansas State, the Cowboys entered their matchup with UCF believing they could finally break through against a Big 12 opponent. Their confidence looked justified early, as they took a 14–0 lead into halftime thanks to a Zane Flores touchdown run.

But that momentum didn’t carry over. The second half swung in UCF’s direction—not through a sudden collapse, but through a slow, steady shift everyone could see coming. The Knights cut the deficit to 14–7, eventually tied the game, and in the final minutes began a deliberate march down the field while OSU failed to capitalize on chances to regain possession. UCF drained the clock to under a minute and kicked the deciding field goal.

The loss echoed the Cowboys’ recent setbacks against Kansas and Kansas State. Against the Wildcats, the defense delivered a strong performance—holding them to 14 points—but the offense couldn’t take advantage. At Kansas two weeks earlier, Oklahoma State controlled much of the first half behind a sharp start from Flores, but the second half unraveled into a lopsided defeat.

At 1–10 and trying to avoid a second straight winless Big 12 season, OSU faces Iowa State next week needing to solve its late-game issues. The team deserves credit for continuing to compete in a season where it would have been easy to fold, but if that effort doesn’t lead to at least one more victory, it will still feel disappointing.

With a new era approaching for the program, finishing the season on a positive note would be meaningful. But if Saturday’s game at UCF proved anything, it’s that Oklahoma State still has significant work to do before it can consistently play a full, complete game.
