Chargers Address Injury Issues, Add Former Bengals Draft Pick

The Los Angeles Chargers have placed tight end Tucker Fisk on injured reserve, sidelining him until at least the postseason. In response, the team moved quickly to add depth at the position.

After a Week 12 bye that helped them recover from a demanding early-season schedule—including a trip to Brazil and an early start due to the Hall of Fame Game—the Chargers dominated the Las Vegas Raiders 31–14 in Week 13. However, the win brought new injury concerns when quarterback Justin Herbert broke his left hand on the opening drive.

Herbert missed only eight snaps in that game, underwent surgery the next day, and still managed to play every snap in the overtime battle against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football.

Meet Tanner McLachlan, TE, Arizona
✅️Tough as nails
✅️Goes hard for YAC
✅️Sure hands
✅️Has tools to develop
At this point, mainly an effort blocker, to which he gives 100%. Has the toughness to catch passes over the middle.

Fisk, a key blocking tight end, was also hurt against the Raiders and was already ruled out for the Eagles game. On Monday, the Chargers unexpectedly placed him on injured reserve with an ankle injury.

The move helped make roster space for the returns of defensive lineman Otito Ogbonnia and running backs Omarion Hampton and Hassan Haskins, all activated from IR. Fisk’s placement on injured reserve created the third required roster opening. Because the Chargers have reached their limit of eight regular-season IR activations (plus potential playoff activations), Fisk cannot return until after Week 18.

Chargers sign Tanner McLachlan

To reinforce the tight end group, the Chargers brought in five tight ends for workouts on Tuesday. They ultimately signed Tanner McLachlan to the practice squad. A 2024 sixth-round pick by the Bengals out of Arizona, McLachlan was injured during 2025 training camp and released with an injury designation and subsequent settlement.
