Michigan Feels Immediate Recruiting Impact After Sherrone Moore Firing

Michigan is beginning to experience the ripple effects of dismissing head coach Sherrone Moore, with the program taking its first major hit on the recruiting front. Shortly after the season concluded, Moore was relieved of his duties, and the fallout is already affecting the Wolverines’ commitments.

Interior offensive lineman Bear McWhorter has withdrawn his letter of intent, according to On3’s Ethan McDowell. The move comes just two days after Moore’s dismissal, which followed allegations of an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. McWhorter, who stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 308 pounds, is ranked No. 609 overall in the national rankings and No. 58 among interior offensive linemen.

McWhorter had committed to Michigan on December 28, 2025, after narrowing his recruitment to five schools. His final choice came down to Michigan and Alabama, with the Wolverines ultimately winning out at the time. His decision to reopen his recruitment may signal the beginning of additional decommitments as the program continues to navigate the consequences of the ongoing investigation tied to Moore.
