Auburn Tigers Drop Yet Another Big-Time Announcement
Alex Golesh is bringing another former USF Bulls staffer to Auburn.
Howard head coach and former Tennessee offensive coordinator Larry Scott is reportedly set to join Auburn’s staff as tight ends coach under Alex Golesh.
Scott, who turns 49 on Jan. 2, compiled a 23–37 overall record and a 12–15 mark in MEAC play across six seasons at Howard. He guided the Bison to conference championships in 2022 and 2023, though the program never finished with a winning record during his tenure. Howard posted a 5–7 record, including a 2–3 conference mark, this season.
CBS Sports first reported Scott’s expected move. As of publication, Howard had not named an interim head coach, and Auburn had yet to officially announce the hire.
While Scott and Golesh share ties to Tennessee and USF, they have not previously worked together. Scott played at USF and served in multiple coaching roles with the Bulls from 2006 to 2012, coaching tight ends, offensive line, and running backs during that span. Golesh posted a 23–15 record as USF’s head coach over the past three seasons.
Scott joined Tennessee as tight ends coach in 2016 before being promoted to offensive coordinator the following year. Golesh later served as the Volunteers’ offensive coordinator in 2021 and 2022 before taking over as USF’s head coach.
