Standing 6-foot-6 and weighing 210 pounds, Morrell brings both size and athleticism, with the flexibility to contribute in various roles.
The Pratt, Kansas native had originally committed to Colorado State before switching to Iowa State on December 3. His decision followed a visit to Kansas State during their homecoming game against TCU on October 11, but no offer was extended at that time under the previous coaching staff.
However, with Iowa State’s head coach Matt Campbell leaving for Penn State, Morrell was released from his National Letter of Intent and reopened his recruitment just weeks after signing. As a result, Morrell attracted attention from several programs, including Auburn and Missouri, and expressed interest in hearing from Penn State as well.
Kansas State had been recruiting Morrell for over two years, and once Coach Klein made an official offer, the process came full circle. Morrell wasted no time committing, locking in his future with the Wildcats almost immediately.
A Key In-State Addition with Versatility
Morrell’s decision also underscores Kansas State’s emphasis on keeping top local talent in-state. He is ranked as the second-best player in Kansas according to the 247Sports Composite and is the No. 57 tight end nationally in the 2026 class.
With his commitment, Morrell becomes the third Kansas native to join Kansas State’s 2026 class, joining offensive lineman Lamarcus Barber from Mill Valley and athlete Lawson McGraw from Blue Valley West, both of whom signed in December.
During the 2025 season, Morrell posted impressive numbers, recording 36 receptions for 504 yards and seven touchdowns. He also rushed for 206 yards on 46 carries, showcasing his versatility—a trait that makes him an excellent fit for Kansas State’s offensive scheme.
A three-sport athlete, Morrell excels in basketball and track as well. In basketball, he earned First Team All-State honors at the 4A level, averaging 20.3 points and 11.2 rebounds per game. In track, he participates in the triple jump, long jump, and 4×400 relay.
Morrell’s commitment marks the 25th addition to Kansas State’s 2026 class, making it an early and significant recruiting win for Coach Collin Klein.
