The latest blow to UNC comes from their standout player in 2025, edge rusher Tyler Thompson, who has now announced he will also enter the transfer portal. This is a significant setback for UNC, already set to lose linebacker Khmori House.
Thompson, a 6’4″, 245-pound defensive force, was a key contributor this season, recording 26 tackles, 7 sacks, 8 tackles for loss, and 2 forced fumbles. He earned an impressive PFF grade of 85 and was the 4th-highest sack leader in the ACC, cementing his status as the team’s best player on the field.
