The Iowa Hawkeyes football team is deep into spring practice as they prepare for the 2025-26 season, but they are also once again active in the transfer portal.

Tight end Gavin Hoffman has declared his intention to enter the NCAA transfer portal after a redshirt freshman season. The Leawood, Kansas native from Blue Valley Northwest High School did not see any game action during his lone year with the Hawkeyes.

Hoffman made the announcement through a post on X, where he expressed his gratitude to Iowa, head coach Kirk Ferentz, and others for his time with the program.

Hoffman was a four-star recruit coming out of high school, according to both 247Sports and the 247Sports Composite rankings. He was rated as the No. 17 tight end and the No. 2 recruit from Kansas in the 2024 class.

Several schools that had offered Hoffman out of high school could be in the running for his commitment. These include Arizona State, Missouri, Arkansas, Auburn, Ball State, Eastern Michigan, Illinois, Nebraska, Purdue, Tennessee, and Texas Tech.

With Hoffman’s departure, Iowa’s tight end group is now made up of Zach Ortwerth, Michael Burt, DJ Vonnahme, Addison Ostrenga, and Hayden Large.
