Ohio State Star Makes Big Announcement Amid Growing Concerns
Amid significant worry following a disappointing 2024-25 college basketball season, a standout Ohio State Buckeyes player has made an important announcement. The team’s lackluster performance raised concerns about potential transfers from some of their top players.

Royal took to social media to confirm that he will stay in Columbus for the upcoming season, choosing not to enter the transfer portal or declare for the NBA Draft. This is a big win for Coach Jake Diebler and the Buckeyes.

The 6-foot-6 forward joined Ohio State for the 2023-24 season, where he averaged 4.7 points and 2.4 rebounds per game in his freshman year. This past season, however, Royal made a significant leap.
In 31 games and 27 starts, he posted averages of 13.7 points and 6.9 rebounds per game, with 52.5% shooting from the field, 27.6% from three, and 77.2% from the free-throw line. He had six games scoring over 20 points, including a standout performance with 31 points and 15 rebounds in a win over Valparaiso.
While his three-point shooting still needs improvement, Royal has shown considerable growth and is quickly emerging as one of the Big Ten’s top players.
The Buckeyes finished the season with a 17-15 record, including a 9-11 mark in conference play. While they had some impressive wins, their poor losses ultimately overshadowed the positive moments.
We’ll see if Ohio State can bounce back with a stronger season under Diebler next year. At least they know Royal will be back to lead the charge.
