Michigan Basketball Guard Joins the Transfer Portal
Following Dusty May’s appointment as Michigan’s head coach to replace Juwan Howard, he recruited a three-player class for 2024. Among them, Justin Pippen, the highest-ranked recruit, entered the transfer portal during Michigan’s NCAA Tournament run.
Now, according to Jeff Borzello, another freshman has followed suit. Durral ‘Phat Phat’ Brooks, a 6-2 guard from Grand Rapids and Michigan’s Mr. Basketball, is entering the transfer portal. Brooks appeared in 15 games this season, but under May, he played a limited role off the bench, averaging just 3.2 minutes per game.

Brooks originally committed to Michigan during Howard’s tenure and chose to stay when May was hired. However, with the arrival of guard Trey McKenney and the rising performance of LJ Cason, Brooks is seeking a bigger opportunity elsewhere.
Brooks joins Jace Howard, Sam Walters, Tre Donaldson, and Pippen as players who have entered the transfer portal.
