Kansas to Host Versatile Transfer Guard Melvin Council Jr. for Campus Visit
The Kansas Jayhawks are preparing to host Melvin Council Jr., a dynamic senior guard from St. Bonaventure, for an on-campus visit as head coach Bill Self continues to be active in the transfer portal in search of experienced backcourt help.
Council, a 6-foot-4 veteran, is coming off a strong season where he averaged 14.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game. Known for his two-way impact, he also posted 2.1 steals per contest and finished third in the Atlantic-10 in Defensive Win Shares, highlighting his defensive prowess.
With Kansas experiencing significant roster turnover due to graduations and transfers, the addition of Council could be a key piece in retooling for next season. Mutual interest appears strong—Council recently narrowed his choices down to four schools, with Kansas joining Georgia, Georgia Tech, and Mississippi State in the final group.

As reported by On3 Sports, Council is scheduled to visit Lawrence this weekend, giving the Jayhawks a major opportunity to land one of the top remaining guards in the portal.
If he commits, Council would join a transfer class that already includes Loyola-Chicago guard Jayden Dawson and Illinois wing Tre White. They would be joined by Kansas’ 2025 high school recruits, headlined by No. 1-ranked combo guard Darryn Peterson and four-star wing Samis Calderon (No. 73 per 247 Sports), forming a deep and talented incoming group.
