Ohio State football head coach immediately addressed the postgame scuffle with Michigan.
Ohio State football head coach Ryan Day faced significant backlash after the team’s 13-10 defeat to Michigan on Saturday. The criticism stemmed not only from the loss to the unranked Wolverines at home but also due to the tumultuous situation that occurred following the game:
Day, on the other hand, focused on the confrontation between Ohio State and Michigan. The Buckeyes’ head coach quickly spoke to reporters about the altercation.
“I don’t have all the details,” Day said, acknowledging that he didn’t have a full perspective on the situation.
However, he remarked, “These guys were trying to plant a flag on our field, and our players weren’t going to allow that.”
Regardless, many criticized Day for his coaching decisions during the game and how he handled the final altercation.
“Of course, we’re embarrassed by the loss. But we have prideful players on this team who weren’t just going to stand by,” Day stated in conclusion.
Fox Sports analyst and former NFL linebacker Emmanuel Acho harshly called out the head coach after the brawl gained attention online.
“Ryan Day, while your whole team is involved in a brawl, you’re on the sideline asking ‘what happened?’ Really!?” Acho commented on X. “You should be on the field, taking charge and making sure your players head to the locker room.”
Fox Sports radio host Aaron Torres was among those criticizing Ohio State head coach Ryan Day during the recent loss.
“Ryan Day is on the verge of getting fired because he and Chip Kelly seem more focused on proving they can outmuscle Michigan rather than utilizing one of his 237 NFL-caliber wide receivers,” Torres remarked. “What a world.”
Day has now suffered four consecutive losses to Ohio State’s top rival and holds a 1-4 record against the Wolverines, with his only win occurring in 2019. He also lost to Sherrone Moore for the first time in this matchup.
The defeat puts Ohio State at risk of missing the Big Ten Championship Game, as they now have two losses. Meanwhile, Penn State controls its own fate after Michigan’s upset, and Indiana remains in contention for the conference title, although they need the Nittany Lions to lose.
