Top Shooter in Transfer Portal Set to Visit Kentucky
Kentucky is set to host one of the top shooters available in the transfer portal, and momentum is building in their favor.
Following recent campus visits from Mackenzie Mgbako and Taylor Bol Bowen, the Wildcats are preparing to welcome a key transfer target: Sam Houston guard Lamar Wilkerson. According to 247 Sports’ Dushawn London, Wilkerson will be visiting Lexington—along with other schools—before making his final decision.
Wilkerson, a 6-foot-5 guard known for his elite shooting ability, is drawing strong interest from Kentucky’s coaching staff. The Wildcats are reportedly gaining traction in his recruitment, which is now entering the campus visit phase. He’s also planning trips to Auburn, Ole Miss, and Indiana. While Indiana was previously seen as the front-runner, Kentucky has recently closed the gap significantly.
It’s important to note that transfer visits can’t officially begin until the NCAA’s dead period ends on April 10, so Wilkerson’s visits are expected to kick off this weekend.
Adding a high-level shooter like Wilkerson would be a major boost for Kentucky’s backcourt, which already features athletic, playmaking guards. Wilkerson had an impressive season at Sam Houston, averaging 20.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game while shooting 47.7% from the field and a blistering 44.5% from three on 7.7 attempts per game.
Other guards on Kentucky’s radar include Jaron Pierre Jr. and Wesley Yates. Pierre’s recruitment has gone quiet, while Yates has recently been linked to Washington.
With Wilkerson’s visit approaching, Kentucky has a real chance to add a dynamic shooter to round out its backcourt—something that could make a major difference next season.
