Nico Iamaleava’s Father Shuts Down Rumors of Contract Dispute with Tennessee
Tennessee football fans were sent into a frenzy on Thursday after On3 reported that quarterback Nico Iamaleava was involved in contract negotiations — a claim that prompted a strong response from his father.
Just days before the Volunteers wrap up their spring football schedule and with the transfer portal about to reopen, Pete Nakos of On3 reported that Iamaleava was in talks over a revised NIL deal, suggesting the star QB was dissatisfied with his current agreement and pushing for more money. Nakos even referenced the evolving NIL landscape, highlighting that Iamaleava’s original deal was one of the earliest major quarterback contracts and that the market has since shifted — citing reports of Miami allegedly paying Carson Beck $4.5 million for a single season.
However, Nico’s father, Nic Iamaleava, quickly responded via social media, dismissing the report entirely and criticizing Nakos directly.
“More games being played off the field than on,” he wrote. “Bi7ch Nakos from On3Sports called and asked me directly — I told him I had no idea what he was talking about. He said his ‘close source’ from the Tennessee staff gave him this info.”
Further clarity came from other reporters including Brandon Huffman, Chris Hummer, and John Talty, who cited a source close to the Iamaleava family stating that no contract negotiations are taking place and that the family is satisfied with the current deal.
