The Expected Duration of Quarterback Sam Leavitt’s Absence From Arizona State?

The Arizona State Sun Devils (5-2, 2-2) have five games remaining in the regular season and are in a good position to secure a bowl bid and potentially qualify for the 2024 Big 12 Football Championship.

The Big 12 stands out among the Power 4 conferences as the most unpredictable on a weekly basis. Equality rules. Iowa State and BYU are leading the conference with a record of 4-0, while four teams are at 3-1 and three teams are at 2-2.

BYU and Iowa State had to both mount come-from-behind victories at home last week in order to remain undefeated. Now BYU must journey across the country to Orlando for a Saturday afternoon matchup against UCF – and the bookies predict the game to be a toss-up. BYU started the game with a 1.5-point advantage.

The key point: The Big 12 standings will undergo significant changes by the end of November.

For Arizona State to take advantage of the equality, they require Sam Leavitt.

Leavitt was absent from the Sun Devils’ 24-14 defeat against Cincinnati due to a rib injury sustained during the second quarter of the game against Utah on Oct. 11. He will have extra time to recover before ASU’s game at Oklahoma State on Nov. 2 with a bye week approaching.

Will Leavitt participate in the game against the Cowboys?

Arizona State coach Kenny Dillingham said on Monday that he still has doubts about his availability for the Oklahoma State game. I think it’s equally likely he will come back or not. There’s a chance of 60% that he will not. The upcoming week will be crucial for us.

Under Leavitt’s leadership, the Sun Devils achieved a 5-1 record and maintained an average of 32.2 points in their initial six matches.

ASU scored 14 points with Jeff Sims as backup quarterback against Cincinnati, and their first-half drive sequence was: Touchdown, fumble, turnover on downs, punt, punt, turnover on downs, punt.

Dillingham has an additional week to ready for the Cowboys and help Sims become more at ease with the offense. However, it’s evident that utilizing Leavitt as their quarterback is essential for the Sun Devils to have a chance at securing a top-two spot in the Big 12.
