A.J. Turner Scores 4 Touchdowns to Lead Marshall to a 35-20 Victory Over Georgia State.

HUNTINGTON, West Virginia A.J. Turner rushed for 177 yards and three touchdowns, including an 88-yard run to secure the win with under 2 minutes remaining. He also caught a 30-yard touchdown pass right before halftime as Marshall defeated Georgia State 35-20 on Thursday night.

Turner scored a touchdown from the 2-yard line, then Toby Payne successfully ran in a fake PAT-attempt for a 2-point conversion, giving Marshall (4-3, 2-1 Sun Belt) an early 8-0 lead within 3 minutes of the game starting. Rece Verhoff made a 47-yard field goal, then Turner scored a 23-yard touchdown run on the first play in the second quarter to increase the lead to 18-0.

Zach Gibson completed 13-yard and 3-yard touchdown throws to Michel Dukes in the second and third quarters respectively, while Liam Rickman’s 36-yard field goal in the first half was followed by a 20-yarder that brought Georgia State to 25-20 with 14:51 remaining in the game.

Shortly after, Verhoff kicked a 49-yard field goal.

Gibson completed 19 out of 32 passes for 192 yards while Dukes caught seven passes for 66 yards and also contributed 41 rushing yards for the Panthers. Freddie Brock gained 124 yards while running the ball 18 times.
