Jets Keeping Close Watch on Potential Game-Changer Shemar Stewart
The New York Jets have taken a different approach this offseason compared to previous years, with new decision-makers Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey guiding the team. Their impact is evident, as the Jets have operated more quietly than in past years, avoiding the flashy moves that have defined their offseasons.
With the upcoming NFL Draft offering a chance to add more talent, the Jets have been linked to several players, especially with the No. 7 pick in mind. One prospect that New York is reportedly closely monitoring is Texas A&M EDGE Shemar Stewart, according to ESPN’s Rich Cimini.
Cimini shared that the Jets met with Stewart at his pro day and have maintained contact. Glenn, a former Texas A&M standout, likely has a strong connection to Stewart. ESPN draft analyst Field Yates described Stewart as “fascinating,” calling him “the most interesting player in the draft.”
At 6-foot-5 and 267 pounds, Stewart impressed at the combine, running a 4.59-second 40-yard dash and achieving a 40-inch vertical jump. Despite registering only 4.5 career sacks at A&M, his remarkable physical traits have positioned him as a first-round prospect. While it’s unlikely the Jets will select him at No. 7, Stewart could become a target in a trade-down scenario.
With his impressive size and athleticism, Stewart has garnered significant attention, and it remains to be seen if he’ll end up in New York.
