Kevin Durant’s Future in Question After Suns Fire Coach — Rockets Eye Potential Move
Following the dismissal of their head coach and a disappointing season, the Phoenix Suns could be headed for a major roster overhaul — and Kevin Durant’s name is reportedly on the table.
After finishing the 2024–25 season with a disappointing 36-46 record and missing even the Play-In Tournament, the Suns are expected to make significant changes. Despite boasting a star-studded trio of Devin Booker, Kevin Durant, and Bradley Beal, Phoenix fell well short of expectations, raising serious questions about the team’s direction.
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, while Devin Booker remains the central figure in the franchise’s plans, “everything else has been up for discussion” — a clear signal that no one else, including Durant, is untouchable.
Durant, who averaged nearly 27 points per game on 53% shooting, remains a top-tier talent, but he may be on the move once again. Charania noted that the Suns are expected to collaborate with Durant in finding a suitable trade destination, depending in part on which teams feel they’re one star away from championship contention following the Playoffs.
One team already preparing to make a run at Durant is the Houston Rockets. After acquiring a future Suns first-round pick last offseason—presumably with a trade for Durant in mind—Houston is positioned to make a compelling offer. Though they lack a marquee superstar, the Rockets are a young, defensively strong team that could benefit immensely from Durant’s presence.
For now, the Rockets remain focused on their upcoming first-round playoff opponent, either the Warriors or Grizzlies. But with Phoenix’s situation in flux, the idea of Durant in a Rockets jersey is no longer far-fetched — and Houston could be ready to pounce.
