Panthers-Raiders Trade Proposal Could Bring $33 Million Wide Receiver to Bryce Young
An analyst has suggested that Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Jakobi Meyers could be on the move this offseason, with the Carolina Panthers potentially emerging as a suitor.
The Panthers have strengthened their defense for the 2025 NFL season, but their offense still needs significant improvement, especially at wide receiver. Currently, the team has three question marks at the position: Adam Thielen, who is nearing 35; and unproven rookies Xavier Legette and Jalen Coker, both of whom show promise but lack experience.
In a recent piece discussing potential destinations for Meyers if he’s traded, Anthony Palacios of Last Word on Sports named the Panthers as a possible landing spot. He highlighted Carolina’s struggles at wide receiver last season, especially after Bryce Young was benched and Diontae Johnson was traded. With Young back in the fold late in the 2024 season, the Panthers are still in rebuilding mode but have a promising future. Palacios pointed out that while Thielen may only have a couple of seasons left, rookies like Legette and Coker are poised for growth, making Meyers, a potential No. 1 receiver, an intriguing fit for their system.

Meyers’ possible trade comes after ESPN’s Ryan McFadden reported that he is seeking a contract extension as he enters the final year of his $33 million deal. If those talks don’t go as hoped, Palacios speculates that Meyers could push for a trade.
Over the past four seasons, Meyers has quietly been one of the most consistent receivers in the NFL, managing 800+ yards each year despite struggling with subpar quarterback play. His career-high 1,027 yards in 2024, with Aidan O’Connell and Gardner Minshew under center, further demonstrates his reliability. His hands are as dependable as they come, as evidenced by his perfect record last season—126 targets, no drops.
While the Panthers would ideally target a true No. 1 wideout for Young, Meyers would be a solid addition. His veteran presence would provide a reliable target in the short-to-intermediate game and give the Panthers offense a much-needed safety valve.
However, the Raiders value Meyers and may not be eager to part with him, especially with their own struggles at wide receiver. Reports indicate that Meyers enjoys his time in Las Vegas, which further reduces the likelihood of a trade demand.
As for the Panthers, while they should target a wide receiver in the 2025 NFL Draft, they should also keep a close eye on the trade and free-agent markets to strengthen their receiving corps.
