At the moment, Indiana has 79 scholarship players on the roster. The Hoosiers are likely to add at least a dozen more through the portal, with that number potentially growing due to additional roster changes and transfer exits.
Head coach Curt Cignetti and his staff made a major splash in the 2023 portal cycle, bringing in five offensive starters and six on the defensive side. With that kind of success behind them, expect Indiana to stay aggressive in adding experienced talent this offseason—possibly even landing higher-profile players than before.

INCOMING TRANSFERS (19)
- IOL Pat Coogan (from Notre Dame, Jan. 31): After some anticipation, Indiana secured one of its top transfer players as former Notre Dame starting center Pat Coogan joins the team. Coogan started all 13 games in each of the last two seasons, contributing to Notre Dame’s run to the National Championship. He brings valuable leadership and experience to Indiana’s offensive line and has one year of eligibility left.
- S Devan Boykin (from NC State, Jan. 14): A late addition to Indiana’s winter transfer class, Devan Boykin addresses the need for experienced safety. After missing the entire 2024 season due to injury, Boykin previously played 45 games with 19 starts at NC State, recording 117 tackles and multiple interceptions. He has one year of eligibility remaining.
- TE Holden Staes (from Tennessee, Jan. 9): Indiana welcomes Holden Staes, the third-ranked transfer tight end, who is 6-foot-4 and weighs 248 pounds. Staes played all 13 games last season, registering 15 receptions for 131 yards and a touchdown, and is recognized for his blocking skills. He has one year of eligibility left, plus a redshirt year.
- CB Ryland Gandy (from Pittsburgh, Jan. 6): Former Pitt starter Ryland Gandy joins Indiana as the second cornerback transfer. In 13 starts last season, he recorded 40 tackles and contributed significantly to the defense. Gandy adds depth to an already strong cornerback group and has two years of eligibility remaining.
- WR Tyler Morris (from Michigan, Jan. 5): Speedster Tyler Morris transfers from Michigan, where he recorded 39 catches for 470 yards and three touchdowns over three seasons. He had a breakthrough year in 2024 with 23 catches for 248 yards and two touchdowns and will likely play a key role in replacing departing receivers. Morris has one year of eligibility remaining, plus a redshirt year.
- OL Kahlil Benson (from Colorado, Jan. 4): Former IU lineman Kahlil Benson returns to Bloomington after a year at Colorado, where he played in nine games and started four. He brings valuable experience and versatility to the offensive line, with one year of eligibility remaining.
- OL Zen Michalski (from Ohio State, Jan. 3): Zen Michalski comes back to Indiana for his final college season after four years at Ohio State. He has played in 34 games and could step into the starting right tackle position following Trey Wedig’s graduation. Michalski has one year of eligibility remaining.
- QB Grant Wilson (from Old Dominion, Jan. 3): Grant Wilson adds depth to Indiana’s quarterback room, having started three games in 2024 before injuries sidelined him. In 2023, he completed 57% of his passes for over 2,100 yards with 17 touchdowns. Wilson has one year of eligibility remaining.
- S Louis Moore (from Ole Miss, Dec. 28): Louis Moore returns to Indiana for his final season after a year at Ole Miss. He was a key player in IU’s secondary during 2022 and 2023 and adds much-needed experience to a young safety group. He has one year of eligibility remaining.
- QB Fernando Mendoza (from Cal, Dec. 24): Indiana has secured quarterback Fernando Mendoza, who starred at Cal in 2024, throwing for over 3,000 yards and 16 touchdowns. Mendoza, the brother of freshman Alberto Mendoza, ranks as the No. 3 transfer quarterback by 247Sports and has two years of eligibility remaining.
- WR Makai Jackson (from Appalachian State, Dec. 24): The first transfer receiver for Indiana, Makai Jackson, recorded 46 catches for 745 yards and five touchdowns this past season. His experience will be valuable as IU loses several top producers in the receiving corps. Jackson has one year of eligibility remaining, plus a redshirt year.
- RB Roman Hemby (from Maryland, Dec. 23): Former All-Big Ten running back Roman Hemby transfers from Maryland, where he racked up over 2,300 rushing yards and 22 touchdowns during his career. Hemby strengthens a crowded running back room at IU, with one year of eligibility remaining.
- TE Riley Nowakowski (from Wisconsin, Dec. 18): Nowakowski joins from Wisconsin, having played in all 12 games last season. He recorded 11 catches for 74 yards and adds depth to the tight end position after the departure of starter Zach Horton. He has one year of eligibility remaining.
- DL Dominique Ratcliff (from Texas State, Dec. 17): Ratcliff brings defensive line experience after totaling 22 tackles and receiving an All-Sun Belt Honorable Mention last season. He will help fill gaps left by departing defensive standouts. Ratcliff has one year of eligibility remaining.
- DL Hosea Wheeler (from Western Kentucky, Dec. 16): Indiana targets Hosea Wheeler, who was a standout at WKU, tallying 117 tackles and receiving All-Conference USA honors last season. He has one year of eligibility remaining.
- Kicker Brendan Franke (from Texas State, Dec. 15): Franke, a kickoff specialist, averaged 64 yards per kick and had 64 touchbacks last season. He has experience at multiple colleges and has one year of eligibility remaining.
- DB Amariyun Knighten (from Northern Illinois, Dec. 15): Knighten, a productive cornerback with 45 tackles and an interception during his time at NIU, joins Indiana with two years of eligibility remaining.
- Punter Mitch McCarthy (from Central Florida, Dec. 15): McCarthy transfers after a strong career at UCF, where he averaged 43 yards per punt. He has one year of eligibility remaining.
- RB Lee Beebe Jr. (from UAB, Dec. 13): Beebe, who had a breakout season at UAB with 885 rushing yards and seven touchdowns, adds depth to Indiana’s running back squad and has two years of eligibility remaining.
OUTGOING TRANSFERS (16)
- TE Sam West (April 16): Sam West became the third tight end to transfer after participating in spring camp. He was limited in playing time throughout his two years at IU. He has three years of eligibility left.
- OL Austin Barrett (April 16): Barrett, previously seen as a potential starter, opts to leave IU as opportunities on the offensive line were limited. He has three years of eligibility remaining.
- DB Josh Philostin (April 16): After missing his entire first season due to injury, Philostin has decided to transfer. He has four years of eligibility left.
- DT Robby Harrison (April 16): Harrison’s limited role at Indiana led him to transfer after two seasons, finishing his time with minimal statistical impact. He has two years of eligibility remaining.
- TE Brody Foley (Jan. 13): Foley transfers after struggling with injuries that hindered his development. Despite being a four-star recruit, he was not expected to contribute significantly in 2025. He committed to Tulsa.
- CB JoJo Johnson (Dec. 28): Johnson transfers after appearing in 15 games as a backup, compiling 13 tackles. He has two years of eligibility remaining.
- DE Venson Sneed (Dec. 28): A backup defensive lineman, Sneed leaves after recording just nine tackles over three years. He committed to Western Kentucky.
- TE Brody Kosin (Dec. 27): An early recruit who did not see game action as a freshman, Kosin transfers to Miami (Ohio) following a coaching change at IU. He has four years of eligibility remaining.
- QB Tayven Jackson (Dec. 21): After not securing a starting position during his time at IU, Jackson transfers to Central Florida with two seasons of eligibility left.
- RB Elijah Green (Dec. 10): Green had limited impact during his season at IU and is moving on to Sam Houston State. He has one year of eligibility remaining.
- LB Joshua Rudolph (Dec. 9): Rudolph did not appear in games last fall and has committed to UTEP, where he will have two years of eligibility remaining.
- OL Noah Bolticoff (Oct. 4): Bolticoff left IU after not playing in his year with the program. He has two years of eligibility remaining.
- WR Donaven McCulley (Oct. 4): McCulley transferred midseason to preserve a redshirt year after playing in four games. He has one year of eligibility remaining.
- LB Nahji Logan (Oct. 4): Logan also left to preserve his redshirt eligibility after limited playing time. He has one year remaining.
- DB Tyrik McDaniel (Oct. 4): McDaniel departed to maintain his redshirt year after playing in four games. He has one year of eligibility left.
- DB DJ Warnell Jr. (Oct. 3): After transferring from Arizona, Warnell left IU midseason to preserve his redshirt. He has committed to North Texas.
RETURNING PLAYER ANNOUNCEMENTS (3)
- DE Mikail Kamara (Dec. 25): All-American defensive end Mikail Kamara will return for another season, ensuring Indiana’s defensive unit remains strong. He has one year of eligibility left.
- LB Aiden Fisher (Dec. 22): Defensive leader Aiden Fisher returns for his senior season after an impressive run, including All-American honors. He has one year of eligibility remaining.
- WR EJ Williams (Dec. 13): Williams, who left midseason to preserve his eligibility, returns to a receiving corps that will lose several key players. He has one year of eligibility left.
