Oziyah Sellers committed to St. John’s after Gonzaga attempted to schedule a visit with the 6-foot-5 guard
So far, Gonzaga’s extensive search in the transfer portal has produced few results.
With less than a week remaining until the April 22 deadline for entering the portal, the Bulldogs have yet to secure a commitment. This spring, at least six key players from last season’s team, which captured the West Coast Conference tournament title and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament, are leaving due to graduation or transferring, creating ample opportunity for Mark Few and his staff to reshape the roster for the 2025-26 season.
The list of players Gonzaga has reached out to since the portal opened on March 24 has been steadily growing, but despite making the final cut for several recruits, the Bulldogs have not clinched any yet. A potential game-changer could be Maryland transfer Rodney Rice, a 6-foot-4 guard who is among Gonzaga’s last six options, but acquiring just one player may not meet their needs for improved 3-point shooting, backcourt depth, and possibly a versatile wing.
Oziyah Sellers, a 6-foot-5 guard who shot over 40% from beyond the arc at Stanford last season, was previously a target for Gonzaga before committing to St. John’s on Wednesday. Sellers mentioned to the New York Post that Creighton, Gonzaga, Kentucky, and Texas attempted to arrange a visit, but he was determined to go with St. John’s after visiting their campus last weekend.

Sellers was in high demand after an impressive season with the Cardinal, the team he chose after spending two years at USC. He averaged 13.7 points per game and recorded shooting percentages of 45.1% from the field, 40.1% from three-point range, and 89.7% from the free-throw line. His free-throw percentage is the fifth highest in the history of Stanford men’s basketball. He scored 20 or more points on six occasions, including a season-high of 27 points on January 25 against Florida State.
Amid the uncertainty surrounding the Zags’ roster for the 2025-26 season, the need for improved guard play is clear, especially since Ryan Nembhard, Nolan Hickman, and Khalif Battle are all set to graduate this spring. Braeden Smith is anticipated to step into the starting point guard role after a year of learning as a redshirt player, while Emmanuel Innocenti could build on the positive momentum he gained towards the end of last season, assuming the 6-foot-5 guard decides to return to Spokane for his junior year.
