Titans Could Secure Star WR in Perfect Draft-Day Scenario
The Tennessee Titans may have the chance to build a potent offensive future with a dynamic duo.
It’s almost certain the Titans will select Miami quarterback Cam Ward with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. While there’s hope that Ward can be the long-term solution under center, the team will need to surround him with reliable weapons. With Calvin Ridley now quietly 30 years old and deep threat Nick Westbrook-Ikhine leaving for the Miami Dolphins in free agency, the Titans have a pressing need for playmakers.
In this context, the Titans will likely have a shot at adding a top-tier wide receiver in the second round. Sports Illustrated’s Gilberto Manzano suggests that the ideal scenario for Tennessee would be selecting Missouri wide receiver Luther Burden III in round two.
“Selecting Ward at No. 1 is already a dream scenario for Tennessee, but they can enhance it by adding an explosive talent like Burden,” Manzano writes. “The Missouri wideout has the ability to be a YAC (yards after catch) machine at the next level.”
Burden’s draft stock has taken a hit recently for reasons that remain unclear. It could be due to his 2024 season not living up to his stellar 2023 campaign. However, Missouri as a whole experienced a downturn, dropping from a top-10 finish in the College Football Playoff rankings and a Cotton Bowl win in 2023, to finishing No. 19 with a Music City Bowl victory in 2024.
In 2024, Burden recorded 61 receptions for 676 yards and six touchdowns. In contrast, his 2023 season featured more than 1,200 yards on 86 catches and nine touchdowns. If Burden can bounce back and prove his worth, he and Ward could form a chemistry similar to that of C.J. Stroud and Tank Dell, helping to propel the Titans back into contention.
