Houston Texans Linked to Potential Trade with Dallas Cowboys
The Houston Texans have been tied to a significant trade possibility with the Dallas Cowboys.
The Texans have been highly active this offseason, making moves in free agency and pulling off trades. While they haven’t necessarily made drastic improvements to their roster, they’ve certainly been busy.
Could they be looking to strike another deal soon? According to Sterling Xie of Pro Football Network, they might, with defensive lineman Denico Autry being mentioned as a potential trade candidate.
Xie points to the Dallas Cowboys as a possible destination for Autry, noting that his former defensive coordinator from his time with the Indianapolis Colts, Matt Eberflus, is now with Dallas.
Autry, who was signed by Houston to a two-year, $20 million contract last offseason, didn’t live up to expectations in his first season with the Texans. He missed the first six games of 2024 due to a suspension for performance-enhancing drugs and played in only 10 games, finishing with 13 tackles and 3 sacks.
In contrast, Autry had a strong 2023 season with the Tennessee Titans, posting 50 tackles and 11.5 sacks. The Texans had hoped to acquire a high-level pass rusher when they signed him, but that didn’t materialize in his debut season.
Despite his rough start in Houston, the Texans are reportedly giving Autry another shot in 2025, especially considering his strong performances from 2021 to 2023, where he totaled 28.5 sacks. However, if another team, like the Cowboys, offers a compelling deal, Houston might be willing to move him.
The Cowboys are in need of pass-rushing depth, especially with Chauncey Golston leaving for the New York Giants and Carl Lawson still a free agent. As such, adding Autry could be a valuable move for Dallas.
