Big Boost: Good News, A’s Confirm Major Addition to Fall League roster
The A’s have brought Nick Kurtz onto the Mesa Solar Sox roster in the Arizona Fall League, aiming to give him some additional at-bats before the end of the season. Kurtz was selected by the A’s with the fourth overall pick in this year’s MLB Draft after having an impressive collegiate career at Wake Forest.

Kurtz is currently ranked as the No. 2 prospect for the A’s, just behind last year’s top pick, Jacob Wilson, who has made his MLB debut and will be graduating from prospect status in early 2025. Additionally, Kurtz is rated as the No. 45 prospect across all of baseball.
For his first assignment post-college, the A’s sent Kurtz to Stockton in A Ball, where he thrived for just over a week. In seven games, he boasted a .400 batting average, a .571 on-base percentage, and hit four home runs. The A’s prioritized him in the draft due to his advanced hitting approach, which he clearly demonstrated in Stockton.
Following his success, he was promoted to Double-A Midland, bypassing a level entirely. The decision was made because Midland had an opening and was in playoff contention, allowing him more opportunities for at-bats before 2025. Unfortunately, after five games with the ‘Hounds, he suffered a hamstring injury that sidelined him for the remainder of the regular season.
In those five Double-A games, he achieved a .308 batting average with a .400 OBP.
Now, Kurtz is set to take his final swings for 2024 before resting and preparing for what could be a significant 2025 season. Following Wilson’s rapid ascent to the big leagues about a year after being drafted, there’s potential for Kurtz to follow a similar path.
