Top Transfer Defensive Lineman Set to Visit Georgia Tech
Sedrick Smith, a standout defensive lineman from Alabama A&M, is one of the top prospects in the transfer portal and is scheduled to visit Georgia Tech.
As the spring transfer portal window remains open, Georgia Tech has been active in adding talent to its roster. Just recently, the Yellow Jackets secured one of the top transfer cornerbacks when Penn State’s Jon Mitchell committed to the team. Now, head coach Brent Key and his staff seem to be focusing on strengthening their defensive line, with Smith set to make his visit to Georgia Tech following a trip to Georgia.
The 6’4″, 310-pound lineman played in 11 games last season, registering 20 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, and two sacks.

Defensive line has been a key area of focus for Georgia Tech, especially since the winter transfer portal window opened and continuing into the spring. With several key players from the front four graduating or moving on, the Yellow Jackets will need to depend on younger players and new transfers to fill those voids. Although players like Brayden Manley (Mercer transfer), Ronald Triplette (UTSA), Andre Fuller (true freshman), and Amontrae Bradford (redshirt freshman) have impressed head coach Brent Key during spring practices, the need for more depth is clear.
Georgia Tech has some solid players on the defensive line, like Jordan van den Berg, a potential All-ACC talent, and UCF transfer Matthew Alexander, who had a strong spring. However, depth remains a concern, and with promising freshmen like Christian Garrett, Derry Norris, and Blake Belin on the roster, it could be wise for the Yellow Jackets to bring in some experienced talent to bolster the unit. Smith could be just the player they need.
In addition to the potential addition of Smith, Georgia Tech also recently landed Mitchell, a redshirt freshman cornerback who appeared in six games for Penn State last season. Mitchell earned accolades for his special teams play and was praised for his performance in games like the one against Kent State, where he posted two tackles. Mitchell, a four-star recruit from Mandarin High School in Jacksonville, Florida, brings elite ball skills and a knack for creating turnovers. His recruitment to Georgia Tech marks another significant boost to the Yellow Jackets’ roster.
As Georgia Tech continues to make moves in the transfer portal, the addition of experienced players like Smith could help address critical needs, particularly on the defensive side of the ball.
