Saints Expected to Part Ways with Fan Favorite in Potential Blockbuster Trade
Could Taysom Hill be on the move this season?
The New Orleans Saints find themselves in a challenging position as a franchise. They don’t have a promising young core to build around, nor do they possess the veteran talent capable of making a deep playoff run.
Given this situation, the Saints might be looking to trade some of their higher-priced, older players.
Pro Football Network recently speculated that the Saints could trade veteran tight end Taysom Hill this offseason. Hill is entering the final year of his contract in 2025.
“The Saints don’t have many tradeable contracts due to their aggressive use of void years,” they wrote. “This limits the players they can trade without affecting the salary cap, at least until after June 1, when they can spread out the cap hit over several years.”
“At that point, Taysom Hill could be a viable trade option as he approaches 35 and enters the final year of his deal. His $10 million base salary exceeds his market value, so any trade would likely involve a contract renegotiation. However, with Sean Payton being Hill’s biggest advocate, the Broncos coach might find a way to use his versatile skill set.”
Given Hill’s unique talents, only certain teams may be interested in acquiring him. However, the Saints could still find a trade partner across the league. The Denver Broncos, in particular, make a lot of sense as a potential suitor, especially with Payton’s familiarity with Hill’s abilities.
