Defensive Transfer Star Now Hearing From UNC Tar Heels
The UNC football team is among several schools vying for standout linebacker Andrew Simpson, who recently transferred from Boise State.
Earlier this week, UNC saw a key defensive player, Beau Atkinson, enter the transfer portal, leaving a gap in their roster. It now appears that the Tar Heels are aiming to fill that void with another proven talent, as Bill Belichick’s squad sets its sights on Simpson.
On Thursday, On3’s Hayes Fawcett reported that Simpson has been contacted by UNC’s coaching staff. However, the Tar Heels are not alone in pursuing the 6-foot, 240-pound linebacker, as nearly 20 other schools are also in the mix. Simpson’s strong performance at Boise State has made him a highly sought-after player.
Interest in Simpson has also come from Arkansas, Boston College, California, Cincinnati, Coastal Carolina, Indiana, Memphis, Oklahoma State, Penn State, Purdue, Rutgers, Stanford, Syracuse, Texas A&M, Tulane, UCLA, UNLV, USC, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, and NC State.

A former three-star recruit from St. John Bosco High School in California, Simpson spent four seasons with the Broncos, including a redshirt year. During his time at Boise State, he compiled 140 total tackles, 12.5 sacks, five forced fumbles, and three interceptions, earning All-Mountain West Second Team honors in 2023.
