Broncos Explore Potential Trade-Up in NFL Draft Shocker
As the 2025 NFL Draft week kicks off, the Denver Broncos are considering all options with their first-round pick at No. 20 overall. With stability in key positions like head coach, general manager, and quarterback, the team has several directions it could go, making the decision a bit unpredictable.
After a recent conference call with NFL Network’s draft expert Daniel Jeremiah, there were discussions about Denver potentially trading down to No. 33 or No. 34 in deals with the Browns or Giants. However, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Monday that the Broncos are one of the few teams actively exploring a trade-up in the first round.
“Denver has made inquiries about moving up in Round 1, according to sources,” Schefter wrote. “But there aren’t many teams willing to trade up at this point. This could change when players begin to fall and teams are on the clock.”
If the Broncos do trade up, the move will depend on how far they want to go and which players are available. With numerous teams interested in trading down, it’s a buyer’s market, although Denver may not get a bargain in the process.
Schefter also noted that the Steelers (No. 21) are among the teams looking to move back in the first round, along with the Jaguars (No. 5), Panthers (No. 8), 49ers (No. 11), Falcons (No. 15), Seahawks (No. 18), Buccaneers (No. 19), and Vikings (No. 24).
So, who might Denver be targeting? Given general manager George Paton’s comments about the prospects in the 10-20 range being relatively similar, the Broncos may be focused on landing one of the few true first-round talents on their board.
Could they make a play for running back Ashton Jeanty if he slips past the Raiders at No. 6? Might they target tight ends Tyler Warren or Colston Loveland despite already adding Evan Engram? Could Denver make a smaller move to secure running back Omarion Hampton? Or are they eyeing a pass rusher like Mykel Williams or cornerback Will Johnson?
The possibilities are endless, and with the draft just days away, all will be revealed soon. Whatever path the Broncos take, the decision-makers in Denver have earned the benefit of the doubt in shaping the future of the team.
