Analyzing Oklahoma’s Road to the SEC Regular Season Title
As the SEC regular season nears its end, a tight race at the top sees several teams still in contention for the conference’s top seed heading into next month’s tournament.
With just two weekends remaining, six teams are still vying for the SEC regular season title.
Texas A&M leads the way with a 13-4 record, but their remaining schedule presents challenges. The top-ranked Aggies, who’ve played one less game due to the cancellation of their April 7 series finale against Georgia, will face No. 9 Arkansas at home and then travel to No. 4 Tennessee, who sit at 12-6 in conference play.
Between Texas A&M and Tennessee in the standings are No. 3 Oklahoma and No. 2 Texas, both holding 13-5 conference records. The Red River Rivals will meet this weekend at Love’s Field.

The loser of the series in Norman will need help from other teams losing, but a series loss isn’t a death sentence.
Patty Gasso’s Sooners will wrap up the regular season in Gainesville against No. 8 Florida, while Texas will host Kentucky. For Oklahoma to secure a shot at the SEC’s top overall seed, they’ll likely need to win at least two games from Texas.
The Volunteers are set to face No. 16 Ole Miss this weekend before returning home to host Texas A&M, while Florida heads to Baton Rouge before welcoming the Sooners.
All six teams at the top of the SEC are well-positioned to not only host a Regional but also a Super Regional, should they continue their NCAA Tournament runs.
Eight of the top 10 teams in RPI are from the SEC, with all six top-ranked teams sitting within the top 10, leaving plenty of room for movement over the final two weekends.
“Our destiny is literally in our own hands, and we know that,” said Gasso on Sunday. “The nice thing is we’re playing at home against Texas, but they’re a very good team top to bottom… We need fans. We need that Bedlam energy to fuel us. It’s going to be a wild weekend, and I think the energy’s going to be high, which can really help us. We’re ready for it.”
The Oklahoma-Texas series kicks off at Love’s Field on Friday at 5 p.m., with games scheduled for Saturday at 11 a.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. in Norman.
