One Dallas Stars forward is making his presence known after missing several months due to injury.
Dallas Stars forward Tyler Seguin has experienced some truly unfortunate luck with injuries lately, and that’s an understatement.
At 33, Seguin has played only 20 games this season following hip surgery in early December. This followed a nearly complete absence from the 2020-21 season due to injuries.
However, the 15-year NHL veteran has performed well since his return. In Game 3 of the Stars’ first-round series against the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday night, he made a key contribution when his team needed it most.
With just 5:31 remaining in overtime, Seguin scored off a slick pass from Mason Marchment, beating Avalanche goalie Mackenzie Blackwood and securing a 2-1 win for Dallas. More significantly, that goal gave the Stars a 2-1 lead in the series, despite having only held the lead for a little over a minute during gameplay.
“I aimed to one-time it, but it went a bit off and inside. My instinct told me to go low glove,” Seguin said after the game, as reported by NHL.com. “You think about the significance of overtime winners, but there’s so much more to tonight than just that goal. It’s about the penalty kill and all the little details the guys contributed.
“It was Mikko Rantanen’s effort on the shift before I scored—fighting off three players and then changing for me. I just happened to benefit from it, and as a team, we secured a great road win.”
Seguin has two years left on his $ 9.85 million contract. However, given his age and injury history, it’s uncertain how much more he can contribute.
Right now, what matters is that he’s performing well and boosting the Stars’ confidence when they need it the most.
“Gutsy win,” praised Stars head coach Pete DeBoer. “After the game, I wanted to recognize the key players and their contributions, but honestly, I could’ve acknowledged everyone. Everyone stepped up tonight and played their part—we really worked hard for this victory and executed many good plays.”
