Maryland Once Again Feels the Sting of the Transfer Portal

Maryland Football Loses Another Key Veteran to Transfer Portal

Maryland football has faced another setback with the loss of veteran kicker Jack Howes, who has entered the transfer portal. Howes shared the news on his social media.

“Thank you, Terp Nation!! I’m grateful for the memories from my 4 years at the University of Maryland. Graduating from a top-ranked engineering school and playing BIG10 football are accomplishments I will cherish forever. I’m excited about what the future holds, and have entered my name into the portal as a grad transfer for my final year of eligibility. With Maryland Pride, Jack Howes.”

Howes served as Maryland’s kicker for the past two seasons. In 2023, he made 13 of 19 field goals, with a long of 49 yards, and in 2024, he was 11 of 16, with a long of 48 yards. The Terps will now need to find a new kicker for the 2025 season. While they have two kickers currently on the spring roster, both have limited experience.
