Gophers Secure Commitment from Old Dominion Transfer Quarterback Emmett Morehead
The Minnesota Gophers football team has secured a commitment from quarterback Emmett Morehead, who is transferring from Old Dominion.
Morehead, who will join the Gophers as a redshirt senior in 2025 with two years of eligibility remaining, previously spent three seasons at Boston College before transferring to Old Dominion in May 2024. His commitment comes shortly after quarterback Zach Pyron left Minnesota for South Alabama. Morehead redshirted his freshman season at Boston College in 2021 but appeared in games during the next three years, with his most notable season coming in 2022. That year, he threw for 1,254 yards, 10 touchdowns, and six interceptions while completing 60% of his passes. He did not see playing time in 2024 during his time at Old Dominion.

A native of Alexandria, Virginia, Morehead was a three-star recruit out of high school, ranked as the No. 46 prospect in Virginia and the No. 112 quarterback nationally in the 2021 class, according to 247Sports. He also received scholarship offers from several programs, including Appalachian State, Buffalo, Kentucky, Pittsburgh, Richmond, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Yale, and Duke.
Morehead’s arrival adds valuable experience to the Gophers’ quarterback room, which currently features only presumed starter Drake Lindsey as a quarterback with collegiate game experience. With Morehead’s commitment, along with Dylan Wittke and Max Shikenjanski, Minnesota’s quarterback depth has received a significant boost. Morehead is the 21st transfer to join the Gophers, according to 247Sports.
