Illinois Football Extends Offer to Limestone University Transfer Tight End

Terik Mulder visited Illinois on Friday and received an offer after his Division II school, Limestone University, shut down its football program.

Mulder had planned to play football this season at Limestone, but the university made the decision to end its football program last week, leaving its athletes to find new opportunities.

Due to Limestone University shutting down, I will be entering the transfer portal looking for a home for Fall of 2025. TE / 6’5 / 240lbs with 2 years of Eligibility! pic.twitter.com/FHY1EoeYK2

As a result, Mulder, a 6-foot-5, 240-pound tight end with two years of eligibility remaining, has attracted significant attention from various college programs. Now, Illinois has extended an offer to him, joining other Division I schools who are interested in his talent.

Impressive, especially considering Mulder didn’t catch a pass last season. He transferred to Limestone after playing at Division I FCS Presbyterian College in 2024, where he appeared in just four games. However, as a sophomore in 2023, he recorded nine receptions for 118 yards and four touchdowns. With Illinois recently losing Jake Furtney to the transfer portal, coach Bret Bielema and his staff have made a strategic move in offering Mulder.

Though taking a chance on Mulder, who is from Lexington, Kentucky, may seem uncertain, Illinois already has a strong tight end corps. This makes it a relatively low-risk move, with the potential for a rewarding outcome if Mulder develops well over the next few years. Ideally, he could focus on improving in 2025 and become a standout in 2026.

To secure his commitment, Illinois will have to outbid other interested schools, including Big Ten rival Maryland. Mulder has also received offers from Kent State, Southern Mississippi, South Alabama, and Georgia Southern.
