The Tennessee Volunteers have experienced some unexpected drama in the transfer portal, losing a standout quarterback while also acquiring another. Just as the portal closed on Friday, the team faced additional setbacks. Their hopes of landing BYU’s top player, Keelan Marion, were dashed this weekend when the All-American wide receiver chose to join the Miami Hurricanes instead.
Tennessee had offered a scholarship to the 6-foot, 195-pound junior and hosted him on April 26, aiming to strengthen their receiving unit and special teams, but ultimately couldn’t compete with Miami’s offer. During his recruitment, Marion visited SMU on April 24 and Miami on April 25 before heading to Knoxville. This loss leaves the Volunteers’ receiving corps lacking in experienced players as fall camp approaches, forcing head coach Josh Heupel to quickly explore options within the team.

A first-team All-American at both kick returner and wide receiver in 2024, Keelan Marion wrapped up last season with 24 catches for 346 yards and a touchdown, while also recording 18 kick returns for 472 yards and two touchdowns, establishing himself as one of the nation’s top dual-threat weapons. Between April 16 and 26, Miami added several key pieces through the transfer portal, including linebacker Kamal Bonner (NC State), All-American WR/KR Keelan Marion (BYU), and veteran kicker Bert Auburn (Texas). On Thursday, head coach Mario Cristobal praised the trio’s immediate boost to the team’s roster depth.
