Top Iowa Hawkeyes Recruit Makes Big Announcement
One of Iowa’s top recruits has just made a significant announcement that has caught the attention of the Hawkeyes’ fanbase.
As the Iowa Hawkeyes continue to push for dominance in the competitive Big Ten, which includes powerhouse teams like Ohio State, Michigan, Oregon, and Penn State, they face an uphill battle to make their mark. Securing top-tier recruits from rival programs is essential for Iowa to take the next step, though it’s often a challenging task.
However, the Hawkeyes are making notable strides in their recruiting efforts, especially with four-star safety Gavin Day from Las Vegas. Day, who is the second-ranked prospect in Nevada for the 2026 class, has officially scheduled a visit to Iowa for June 6. This marks a key moment for the program, as Day has already garnered 18 offers, including interest from several other Big Ten schools, such as Minnesota, Purdue, USC, and Wisconsin.

Before visiting Iowa, Day is set to meet with Minnesota on May 30, but has no other visits lined up after that.
The timing of this announcement is particularly significant for Iowa, as they lost several key players in their secondary this offseason—three starting defensive backs: Jermari Harris, Sebastian Castro, and Quinn Schulte. While Day wouldn’t be eligible to play for the Hawkeyes until 2026, this early recruiting effort shows that head coach Kirk Ferentz is already focused on rebuilding the defensive backfield for the future.
Iowa finished 8-5 last season and suffered a loss to Missouri in the Music City Bowl, leaving fans somewhat disappointed with the campaign. However, the program has made strong moves in the transfer portal recently and is bringing in a solid group of freshman recruits for next fall, which could make 2025 a more promising year for the Hawkeyes.
