Purdue has added former Houston and West Virginia defensive back Hershey McLaurin to its secondary, continuing to strengthen its roster through the NCAA transfer portal this spring.

McLaurin, a 6-foot-2, 210-pound defensive back, joins Purdue after a productive season at Houston in 2024, where he recorded 50 tackles, including eight for loss, along with four passes defended, one interception, and one forced fumble. Before his time at Houston, McLaurin spent two seasons at West Virginia (2022-2023), tallying 89 tackles, seven tackles for loss, and four passes defended.

Additionally, McLaurin played two seasons (2020-2021) at Jones County Junior College. He will have one year of eligibility remaining at Purdue.

Under the leadership of new head coach Barry Odom, Purdue has been highly active in the transfer portal, bringing in 55 players, including more than 20 in the spring alone. McLaurin’s commitment marks another key addition as the Boilermakers prepare for the 2025 season, following a significant roster overhaul after the 2024 campaign.
