Jets-Steelers Trade “In Play” Amid Aaron Rodgers Buzz
Could the Jets and Steelers be working on a trade?
The New York Jets made an unexpected move this offseason by parting ways with Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams, but keeping receiver Allen Lazard—a player who was brought in largely due to his connection with Rodgers. Although Lazard was given permission to seek a trade, no deal materialized. Instead, his contract was recently restructured, likely securing his place in the Jets’ receiver group for 2025.
Despite this, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reported on Wednesday that a trade between the Jets and the Pittsburgh Steelers could be “in play” after the Steelers traded wide receiver George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys earlier that day.
Florio suggested that Rodgers might reunite with Lazard in Pittsburgh, saying, “Aaron Rodgers could be getting the gang back together in Pittsburgh. Well, part of it.” While Rodgers’s longtime coach Nathaniel Hackett hasn’t joined the Steelers yet, there’s speculation that one of Rodgers’s favorite receivers could join him for a third stint, this time in Pittsburgh. According to a source, Lazard is “in play” for a trade to the Steelers.
Why Lazard? Florio pointed out that Rodgers trusts him completely and that Lazard tends to perform significantly better with Rodgers than without him. In fact, Lazard was even made a healthy scratch during Rodgers’s season-long injury absence last year. Recently, Lazard restructured his 2025 salary from $11 million to just $2.5 million, with $1.75 million guaranteed, making him an affordable option for the Steelers, who now have a major hole in their receiver depth chart after trading Pickens.
This potential move adds another layer of intrigue, especially with Rodgers yet to announce any final decisions on his own future, yet the buzz around this possible trade continues to grow.
