Former Avalanche Star Had Blunt Message for Team As Mikko Rantanen Continues to Dominate

Former Avalanche Star Sends Clear Message as Mikko Rantanen Shines

The Colorado Avalanche’s decision to trade Mikko Rantanen continues to be a painful reminder of a move gone wrong.

Not only did Rantanen end the Avs’ playoff run with a hat trick in the third period of Game 7 in the first round, but he’s also been the standout player of the Stanley Cup Playoffs so far. The Dallas Stars forward has scored nine goals and registered 18 points in just 10 games.

His recent performance has sparked a reaction from another former Avalanche player. Nazem Kadri, a key member of Colorado’s 2022 Stanley Cup-winning team, took to social media to voice his thoughts. Kadri made it clear that he believes the Avalanche made a mistake by letting Rantanen go.

“Rule number one: You always keep the dawgs … #96” Kadri posted on X (formerly Twitter).

The Avalanche’s decision to trade Rantanen to the Carolina Hurricanes earlier this season was a surprising one. They felt his contract demands were too high during negotiations for an extension. However, when Rantanen didn’t agree to a new deal with Carolina, they traded him to the Stars at the deadline.

Rantanen eventually signed a new deal with Dallas and has been carrying the team through the postseason. A favorite to win the Conn Smythe Trophy, his outstanding performance has helped the Stars take a 2-1 lead in their series against the NHL’s top-seeded team.

As Rantanen continues to dominate, the decision made by Colorado’s front office is looking worse with each passing game.
