Browns Add Former Steelers Safety Damontae Kazee
The Cleveland Browns have signed former Pittsburgh Steelers safety Damontae Kazee for the 2025 season, keeping him within the AFC North.
According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, Kazee is set to join the Browns, effectively taking over the role previously held by Juan Thornhill. Thornhill spent the past two seasons with Cleveland before signing a one-year deal with Pittsburgh in March.
Kazee first joined the Steelers as a free agent before the 2022 season. After dealing with a forearm injury and a three-game suspension for a violation of the league’s substance abuse policy, he played in nine games. He finished the year with 20 tackles and two interceptions before re-signing with Pittsburgh on a two-year extension.
In 2023, Kazee played in 14 games, recording 61 tackles, two interceptions, and two fumble recoveries. However, he missed the final three games of the regular season due to suspension after a head hit on Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. in Week 15.
Last season, Kazee appeared in 15 games, tallying 31 tackles and an interception.

Kazee was originally drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft out of San Diego State. He spent four seasons with the Falcons before joining the Dallas Cowboys in 2021.
